I SKIMMED her Good Bye Cruel World diary.
I did a string search for 'dailykos' and skimmed for references to political blogs. Zip.
IF she had ... different?... experience in online stuff, she might have mentioned dailykos and the kind of Kerry-Is-A-Sell-Out-I-Love-Dean-I-Love-Obama... fights going on at that site for almost a decade. Or at the spin off sites of dailykos or the fights on Red State or ... ??
EVERY sticky point she brings up as a criticism of how badass is run has been beaten to death on zillions of online political things over the last few decades that there have been online political things: Who is 'our' audience? Who are "we"? What is civil? My favorite example, dailykos, ostensibly exists to reform the Democratic Party away from big money, and, 10 years in, people are STILL fighting like hell about what that means! YAWN.
Given the political naif-ism which is toooooo prevalent in our profession, many of us are re-inventing the wheel with this online stuff. Oh well. IF the facebook discussions / battles were in this blog forum thing for all ether eternity, THEN people could point to that discussion / battle from 3 hours / days / weeks / months / years ago and say - "Hey - 'we' hashed this out and you're bringing nada & zip & diddly squat NEW".
BTW - on dailykos - any GBCW diary gets you permanently banned! ha ha ha. BTW - many of them ARE like this whiner's blog - "sniff sniff ... EVERYONE didn't agree with ME! sniff sniff ... I'm taking my truckie and leaving your sandbox and you can't use it anymore ... sniff sniff".
Personally, I think it has been seriously stupid to disappear some of the stuff I've seen disappeared on the facebook site. In a day or 3 the thread will disappear into the ether, with so many people posting so much stuff. HOWEVER, sadly, lots of good stuff gets lost in the shuffle while the 800 comment flame war blasts away. Um ... that is a fault of facebook technology!
Finally - I have a full time job. I picked up 140? new kids this week in Precalc and Algebra 2. This blog entry was NOT written as some tome which Proves-I-Belong-At-Harvard-Thinking ... so, save spare your admonishments about my informal, wrong side of the tracks style. It is deliberate.
rmm.
p.s. While I hate to give her extra traffic in the internets, it is bad form to not include a URL to what I'm writing about.
