This is for every teacher who refuses to be blamed for the failure of our society to erase poverty and inequality, and refuses to accept assessments, tests and evaluations imposed by those who have contempt for real teaching and learning.

looking for advice from educators...well BadAss teachers
How do parents who disagree with the standards the the school now has to follow fight back? It is so easy to blame the teacher, but they can do little. They are doing there jobs...while most of them didn't sign up for the type of teaching that is being asked of them.
Its only 2 months into my sons first grade year and he is sitting for 16 page assements and tests weekly. I was told this week that he would be held in from recess so that he could be taught how to properly take a test. At least twice a week he comes home emotionally beaten down. In two short months my 6 year old is a shell of the boy he once was. At 6 he is reading, missing 1 or 2 words of a 20 words spelling test. He seems to understand the concept of + and -. I felt confident that he would do well, he has up till now been very excited to tackle new things.
I know what is happening at the school is wrong, but I also know blaming the teacher will do little but create more problems.

I appreciate you asking here. You are right that many teachers do not have a lot of leeway in what and how to teach right now. Is there a way to opt out where you are? What state are you in? That might help someone know how to better help you.

I live in PA. I have been trying to ring out if and how to opt out. It depends on who I talk to about opting out, some say a can some say there is a new law in place to prevent it. Nobody seems to know where I can go for an answer. I do love our elementary school, the teachers and administration of the school are dedicated to our child, I'm struggling with how to support my children's school and education when I don't believe or stand behind the curriculum.
