This is for every teacher who refuses to be blamed for the failure of our society to erase poverty and inequality, and refuses to accept assessments, tests and evaluations imposed by those who have contempt for real teaching and learning.

I am so happy to have found this site and am able to find teachers who are speaking out against this new agenda. I can only imagine what it must be like in public schools having to implement this, imagine the incredible madness in having this implemented in a school in a correctional setting. Most of the young men are from areas where the schools are failing in direct proportion to the communities in disrepair. These core standards will not address mass incarceration nor the failure of communities. The standards and tests will not benefit my students if their needs are not addressed and poverty/violence is their reality.

Thank you for your insight. How do we stop this madness? It seems that the public is brainwashed by the media to believe teachers are bad and standardized tests are good. I am a frustrated teacher watching public education fall apart.

My dream career has transformed into a nightmare. Teachers, regardless of the amount of time you have successfully performed your job are not viewed as experts in their field. I am so glad to find this group, I read about it in my local paper. It is good to see I am not the only one that have had it with politicians getting involved in education. The policies are ridiculous and all of the problems that face students in public school can not be accomplished when teachers are spending more time testing than teaching.
