This is for every teacher who refuses to be blamed for the failure of our society to erase poverty and inequality, and refuses to accept assessments, tests and evaluations imposed by those who have contempt for real teaching and learning.

Hi, I am new to this site. I am a VERY frustrated high school teacher in the South Suburbs of Illinois. I am disgusted with the lack of funding and poor administration in my district. The state and federal government are making mandates, but are not funding the professional development. The state in general is not funding my school and we are certainly not getting it money from the local taxes, as we are in an area of high poverty. I am tired of the inequitable school funding. I am tired of being blamed when students do not "perform proficiently" for standardized tests. There is no parent nor student accountability. I barely have a prep hour each day. My school went to a "common plan" to save money. All teachers have the same hour, the first hour we arrive, as our plan. Since the state came in and said we need more PLC's, we now have PLC meetings, parent meetings, SIP meetings, during our so called plan hour. We are also on a pay freeze to save our art teachers. I am being asked to do more, jump through more hoops, analyze useless date, and get paid less. I am tired, I am burned out, and I need to talk to people that will give me hope. I feel the entire education system is corrupt and broken. I feel that the people at the top do not really care about the students and make poor decisions. The top people are administrators and legislators at the state and federal level. Why aren't we all marching our state capitals or DC? thanks for listening to my rant!
