This is for every teacher who refuses to be blamed for the failure of our society to erase poverty and inequality, and refuses to accept assessments, tests and evaluations imposed by those who have contempt for real teaching and learning.

We have now gotten a US Made and Union shop to sell us BAT shirts in all designs at a low cost.
Bumper stickers are coming soon and we hope to add more shirt types (tank, polo) if there is interest in the t-shirts!
Michelle, my name is Karen Linch. I noticed u teach in WA. I've been trying to find an elementary teacher in the primary grades. Do ur school give the MAP? I've been following Jessie H about the boycott. My district bought it! I'm very disappointing considering what I know about it.

Hello klimch, our district (Shoreline) does not use the MAP. I'm a huge fan of Jessie H. And the Garfield teachers for stopping the MAP at their school as it is not what was best for their kids. I've heard that many elementary teachers like the data the MAP gives them. Let me know how it goes this year. Where do you teach and what district?
Also, we have an elementary board on here, you can pose this as a question to see if other BATs have used it.
2nd Grade Teacher {WA State}, taught 5th, 3rd, and I subbed for a bit, this is my 9th year teaching.
Karen - We've used MAP at our elementary schools. While it's far from perfect, it's the 'best' test so far I've seen for my special education students to show an increase in skills (once they reach a 'bottom' level in the test). If anyone knows of any other 'standardized' assessments that work well for students with disabilities .... would be great to know ...

ladywclass, does it help classroom teachers and reading teachers with instruction in K, 1, 2? Is ur district using it for SLOs and teacher evaluations?
We were using it for diagnostic information and to see 'student growth'. It was not being used for teacher evaluations. As we are doing more and more 'state testing', and costs are rising while funding is dwindling, it was mostly dropped last year. There were some students tested through MAP to help identify those for high ability programs.
