This is for every teacher who refuses to be blamed for the failure of our society to erase poverty and inequality, and refuses to accept assessments, tests and evaluations imposed by those who have contempt for real teaching and learning.

We have now gotten a US Made and Union shop to sell us BAT shirts in all designs at a low cost.
Bumper stickers are coming soon and we hope to add more shirt types (tank, polo) if there is interest in the t-shirts!
I think this may need some context? I'm not sure what the difference is.
I too need more information.
For a little over a hundred years, we have called schools run by local governments 'public schools'.
In the last year or so, the name has changed to 'government run' schools. This seemly innocuous change in name shows how much we have changed. The federal government, since the creation of the Dept. of Ed has had a case of 'mission creep'. They went from general policy makers to more direct administrators of our schools, and have done it with the Power of the Purse.
The difference in semantics is interesting. Public schools seems to have a sense of cooperation built into the name. Government run schools implys prison to me.

I think that's the 'message' Roswalien. "Government schools" sounds like an indoctrination program and makes charters/ vouchers sound better in comparison. Too bad too many of our state superintendents of PUBLIC education are talking as if there is no need for public schools!

I'm sure the root of this phrase is from the anti-community liars who came to power during or after Ronnie Raygun - 'get the government off the backs of the people'
the people pulling the strings on this kind of crap were against child labor laws and the 40 hour work week. in their nirvana, most of our meager paychecks will go to "health" insurance, "retirement" insurance, ... NONE of which will be there when you need it.
Of course, below the string puller level are LOTS and LOTS of dupes ...
What exactly is wrong with a "government school?" My parents live on a government retirement plan. I drive on government roads. I am protected by government police and fire departments. "Government schools" is just a bullshit phrase created by crazy people like Glen Beck. Anyone who watches, listens to or believes asshats like that guy are just flat out crazy.

While I can somewhat understand the concern over the use of government run schools as opposed to public schools as defined above this forum, is the first place in which I've actually heard the term government run schools. Given the expressed concerns, I would like to know where this term is being used, and in what context.
