Government run schools vs. public schools

I too need more information. 

The difference in semantics is interesting. Public schools seems to have a sense of cooperation built into the name. Government run schools implys prison to me.

I'm sure the root of this phrase is from the anti-community liars who came to power during or after Ronnie Raygun - 'get the government off the backs of the people'

the people pulling the strings on this kind of crap were against child labor laws and the 40 hour work week. in their nirvana, most of our meager paychecks will go to "health" insurance, "retirement" insurance, ... NONE of which will be there when you need it.

Of course, below the string puller level are LOTS and LOTS of dupes ...

While I can somewhat understand the concern over the use of government run schools as opposed to public schools as defined above this forum, is the first place in which I've actually heard the term government run schools. Given the expressed concerns, I would like to know where this term is being used, and in what context.
