We have now gotten a US Made and Union shop to sell us BAT shirts in all designs at a low cost.
Bumper stickers are coming soon and we hope to add more shirt types (tank, polo) if there is interest in the t-shirts!

If you teach special education or one of the other 'specialties' (of which there are many) are you paid on the same scale as the general education teachers and given the same benefits and safeguards?

I get a "specialist" supplement and, before this year, I also got an "itinerant" supplement (I'm traveling so no planning time). Not sure how they can take that itinerant supplement away this year since it's part of our union contract but they just announced the first day that they don't have the money to pay it. $2500 just went out the door! I still have to service 4 schools with no planning, just for a lot less money. I get the same benefits and safeguards as teachers. Our district negotiated the "specialist" supplement because it was cheaper than contracting the services. That supplement has also prevented me from going back into the classroom which I've wanted to do at times...I just can't afford the pay cut I would take.
36 years in Public education. 9 years in self contained K-12 Hearing Impaired class; 4 years in self-contained K-5 SLI class (severe language impaired); 23 years SLP, the last 6 years in Middle and High schools.
I'm an ELL (our state now calls it EL) teacher and I am paid on the same salary schedule as all other teachers in my district. So I also get the same benefits. We are all part of the same union.
K-5 ELL (or EL) teacher, starting 24th year, in a suburb of Chicago.
Music teachers that have groups that perform outside of school get a stipend.
I don't think that SpEd teachers should, except as a reward for specialized training..and I think any extra specialized training deserves to be rewarded, not just SpEd .

I have known SpEd teachers who didn't fall under the same contracts as the GenEd teachers who didn't receive "as much" in compensation and benefits as the Gen Ed ... That was the reason for the question. Would be wonderful to find out that some were receiving a bit more for the specialized training!
