We have now gotten a US Made and Union shop to sell us BAT shirts in all designs at a low cost.
Bumper stickers are coming soon and we hope to add more shirt types (tank, polo) if there is interest in the t-shirts!
So, this is a played out discussion, but a recent post by administrator troubled me. For me, purity trolls are as bad as concern trolls. It is the purity trolls in the Republican Party, for example, who have driven out any moderates who might have been amenable to discussion. It is the purity trolls of modern reform that say, "if you do not like our ideas, then you just hate ideas! And you also hate kids."
So, one of the admins told someone if they don't hate common core they should find and other group. Now, I have 87 things on my list of worries above common core, so I have not even really thought about it much, but I am not instinctively opposed to natal standards. That is not the point though.
i am badass, not afraid to confront power, and damn good at what I do. I would never quit BATs, because I believe in it so much, but this "purity test" concerns me greatly.
Remember that a homogenous herd will give you deformed offspring. Same darn thing is true with a movement and its ideas. Thanks, Alec. (Not the bad ALEC either!)
Also, we all don't have to be militant about every single issue. It is actually healthier for a group to have different folks who have different passions. I personally think TFA, with some noble individual members, is a cess pool of evil scum of an organization. That's what I focus on most of the time.
I am in your boat as far as CCSS. I have enough concerns that rank above it that I really do not know a whole lot about what it entails. I do know that I am against high stakes testing and therefore am often found at odds with CCSS as it is presented.
I have always kept my rants directed towards testing, poor statistics/use of statistics and use of tax money to manipulate the public school system.
If this has me at odds with anybody in BATs then it has gone unnoticed since, as I said, I just don't get involved in the issue.
I also have known many TFA teachers that were amazing educators. I've known some that were not, but they were a minority. And of all I've known, only about half left teaching after two years. I do not think TFA teachers are our enemies and it certainly does push a wedge between teachers when we are not specific about our issues (which is the corporate manipulation of the public school system).

I feel that BAT would function beautifully as a way to get like-minded people together. We will have some member that are against federally mandated standardized testing. Those people will use BAT as a way to get together to combat that. Those against CCSS will use BAT as a platform to combat CCSS. Why do we all have to be against all of the same things?
